Things You Should Know Before Buying a Plasma TV
Plasma TVs are often confused with LCD TVs. One of the reasons for this confusion is that both of them have flat and slim displays as opposed to our regular CRT TVs. However, there is a vast difference in the technology that is used in Plasma TVs and LCD TVs. Besides that, the price range also differs greatly between both technologies. So before purchasing your Plasma TV you must be clear about the type of TV that you would actually like to buy. One of the factors that not all of us are aware about Plasma TVs is the connection between a Plasma TV and the altitude. Those who know how Plasma TVs operate will be able to immediately guess why and how the performance of Plasma TV is affected in high altitudes. The display system of a Plasma TV is filled with natural gases such as argon, neon and xenon. For optimum performance the pressure of these gases should be equal to the atmospheric pressure. When the altitude increases there is an imbalance in the pressure of the gases that are trapped in the glass envelope and the atmospheric pressure because most of the Plasma TVs are tuned to work at sea level. They do have a certain amount of tolerance to handle minor variations. NEC Plasma TVs seem to have the highest tolerance level in this regard and they claim that their TVs can operate perfectly well up to an altitude of 9,175 feet. So when you are selecting your Plasma TV you must find a model that has the highest altitude tolerance so that if you happen to move to a higher altitude at anytime later you won't have to change your TV. One of the basic things that you need to pay attention is the size of your room where you will be mounting your TV. It is advised that best picture quality can be enjoyed when you watch it from the optimum distance that is prescribed for each TV. For a 50 inches Plasma TV, you must have at least 10 feet. So the size of the room should allow you to watch the TV from a suitable distance. The best and the latest Plasma TVs come enabled with HDTV. So you must select a model that can handle high definition signals. However, this is going to cost you more when compared to EDTV. The quality of the picture gets better with the resolution; the greater the resolution better the quality of the picture. You must also pay attention to the type of comb filter that is used in a Plasma TV. The comb filter makes the color more vivid and natural and they also reduce discoloration of any form. The best Plasma TV will have 3D comb filters. Before you go to the store to buy your Plasma TV, do some research online to find out about the best deals available and the different terminologies that are used pertaining to Plasma TVs so that you won't get confused or be misled by the sales talk given by the representative at the store. |
